Why I built JKM Edit
I started building this site because I kept encountering the same problems over and over - need to merge PDFs, convert images, do calculations, format code, etc. And then have to search for a tool, click through ads, sign up for an account or pay some $$, and get a tool that does exactly what I need. So, that's why I built this site - a collection of tools that just work.
Simple tools that actually work
This isn't some fancy tool that only K-12 education people are going to love. No. These are the simple tools I use every day - both as a developer and as someone who works with digital files. If you're a student, freelancer, small business owner or just someone who wants to get easy things done online, you'll probably find something here. Everything runs in your browser - no downloads, no sign ups, no data collection.
I've also kept things light, fast and easy. Most sites are over popup junk, unreadable ads, and confusion. I don't agree with any of that. This site is just the tools you need, nothing else. And it works on phone, tablet and computer because I understand people use different tools at different times throughout the day.
What you can do here
We have tools for PDFs (merge, split, compress), images (crop, resize, convert backgrounds), finance (invoices, ledgers, calculators), and things for developers (JSON formatters, base64 encode to decode, password generators). Also time tools, unit converters, and some random useful things like screen recordings or WhatsApp chat exports.
The finance tools were born of necessity. I was helping a family friend with small business books and found it surprisingly difficult to find a simple, free way to quickly record daily transactions. I ended up with the ledger and invoice tools. If you operate a small shop or work as a freelancer, I hope these tools can help you stay organized without having to pay for expensive accounting software.
Tools for developers and other tech people
There's also a good assortment of tools for developers - things like JSON formatter, base64 encode/decode, UUID generator, color palette tools, CSS generators for shadows and gradients. I use these a lot when I'm making websites, and thought they might be helpful for others as well.
Performance is everything. No one wants to sit around waiting for a slug of a website to load, especially when you're just trying to accomplish something quick. I tried to make the site load fast and be responsive immediately. This is especially important when you're on a mobile connection where you can't afford to waste any time.
We are simple and useful
I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel or compete with big tech software companies. This is a practical set of tools that have taken the pain out of a few problems I've encountered. If this makes your life easier or helps you avoid paying for something you shouldn't have to, that's my contribution.
I'll keep adding to this collection as new ideas pop into my head, or as people ask me for tools to help with their problems. The digital landscape is evolving all the time, and new challenges appear. I hope this evolves into something that remains genuinely useful for years to come, and doesn't just become another abandoned project.
Privacy and security
Everything is done in your browser. No files are uploaded to a server. No third party has any data. This is important for documents such as financial reports, personal information, etc. I don't collect your data. I don't track you. I don't sell your data to anyone. No. The site is free and it will stay free.
Performance/accessibility is also important to me. I designed the site to work even on older devices or slower networks. No fancy stuff that requires the latest hardware. If you can open a web browser, you can use these tools.
Built to last
Free tool sites are short-lived. 1-2 years? Not for me. I intend to keep this running and improving for the foreseeable future. I designed the code to be clean and maintainable, so bugs aren't a nightmare to fix, and adding new features isn't fiddly.
This isn't some project that I'll get bored of in five minutes. I use this myself and want to make a genuinely useful site.
If you've found these tools useful, that's awesome. If you have ideas for new tools, or improvements to these, I'm open to suggestions. Make it genuinely useful to as many people as possible without giving up my privacy, and avoiding Black Hat marketing tactics.
No BS, just tools
That's it. No marketing nonsense, no fake reviews, no dark patterns. Straight Tools that really work, do what they're advertised to do, and make your day a little easier.
